It is widely accepted that advertisements
have become a part of mass media. Some people argue that advertising causes
people impulse buying. While, others believe that those are one of the ways
which inform people about up-to-date goods. In this essay, advantages and
disadvantages of advertising will be discussed.
There are possible reasons why I believe
that advertisements have several merits for people. Firstly, it gives customers
a greater range of choice. They might need some information when they buy
products. Since there are plenty of conspecific goods, it makes them difficult
to make a decision due to no knowledge about those of them. Advertisements of
goods let them know about those and help them in order to make the best choice
with a great deal of information given by advertisements. Secondly, companies
are likely to use advertising in the interest of their profits. To make big
profits, they need to introduce their goods to potential customers and make
them to purchase those. For those reasons, companies will choose their products
to be advertised through a variety of mass media since it is the best way of
increasing sales in the products.
However, there are several disadvantages.
Firstly, advertised products are expensive. In detail, companies will indirectly
pass the costs of advertising to the customers who buy their products.
Secondly, there are plenty of exaggerated advertisements. In other words,
companies try to tell only advantages of goods to buyers in order to increase
profits. Consequently, people will be disappointed with the products they have
bought.
In conclusion, several benefits of advertising
such as a greater range of choice for customers and big profits for the
companies and downsides such as expensiveness and exaggerated advertisements
were considered above. In my opinion, the advantages overwhelm the
disadvantages of advertising.
