▶ Your Answer :
People have different views about whether university
education should be offered free of charge to all class of a nation. While it is agreeable for the disadvantaged social strata, I believe that it
is not always desirable.
On the one hand, I accept the opinion that
the poor walks of life need to be given an opportunity to get university
education without payments. This is because of the fact that as long as university
tuition fee is expensive, the poor class in the society may not afford it by
their own financial state. This will cause hardship of getting a quality job in
the current knowledge-intense job market and therefore their life will be worse
off forever. Another reason why I agree with the idea is that people are even
hired with degrees, because the qualification itself, not the subject studied,
is viewed as a signal of an individual’s intellectual and professional quality.
Despite these reasons mentioned above, the
impacts that free educational support contain are negative developments to
our society and therefore I agree with the idea that university should charge the tuition fee. From a financial point of view, if there is no tuition fee, universities
could not provide quality educational course because the governments’ monetary
support is not enough to hold its financial needs. As long as the financial requirements
such as salaries of staffs, facilities of university and maintenance fee are
essential to maintain the university properly, funding scheme is not ignorable.
On top of this cost, in a societal perspective, free university education
brings about an increase of the national average knowledge and in turn it will
remove diversity of career choice. In other words, the highly educated people
may prefer to work in the offices rather than labor-intense working fields.
This may cause shortage of laborers while redundancy of highly intelligent
people.
In conclusion, it is acceptable for poor
people to educate university without financial payment. However, I believe the university should receive the tuition fees because of financial and societal reasons.
